The brief
A young family that hosts both sets of parents wanted a table that did not dominate the room the other 340 days of the year.
The challenge
Most extension tables either store leaves somewhere else in the house or leave a visible seam. A pedestal base also has to stay stable when the table is fully open.
How we built it
- Self storing leaves that live inside the table
- Weighted pedestal base engineered for the extended length
- Grain matched leaves so the seam nearly disappears
- Finish applied to all surfaces so seasonal movement stays even
The result
Thirty seconds to go from a weeknight table to a holiday table, with nothing to carry up from the basement.
