Extension table that grows from six to ten

A pedestal table with concealed extension hardware, sized for weeknights and holidays without moving furniture around.

Extension table that grows from six to ten

The brief

A young family that hosts both sets of parents wanted a table that did not dominate the room the other 340 days of the year.

The challenge

Most extension tables either store leaves somewhere else in the house or leave a visible seam. A pedestal base also has to stay stable when the table is fully open.

How we built it

  • Self storing leaves that live inside the table
  • Weighted pedestal base engineered for the extended length
  • Grain matched leaves so the seam nearly disappears
  • Finish applied to all surfaces so seasonal movement stays even

The result

Thirty seconds to go from a weeknight table to a holiday table, with nothing to carry up from the basement.
