The brief
A new build with a large primary bedroom and no storage to speak of. The owners wanted the closet pressure taken off the room without adding another piece of freestanding furniture.
The challenge
Storage beds often feel heavy. Keeping six large drawers in the base while keeping the bed visually light took careful proportions and a recessed plinth.
How we built it
- Drawer boxes in solid maple with dovetailed corners
- Recessed base so the bed appears to float
- Headboard height set to clear the window trim behind it
- Nightstand heights matched to the mattress, not a catalogue standard
The result
The room reads calm and finished, and two dressers that used to line the hallway are gone.
“The bedroom set pulled the whole room together. The drawers glide, the finish is flawless, and it feels like furniture our kids will fight over one day.”
